This was the most bizarre thing I read. Why on earth do you need Bangladeshi workers to prepare curry? Its a classic pump and dump cooking operation, where pre-prepared spices are used. In my local Sri Lankan restaurant, they have Eastern European cooks and waitresses, and I havent seen any problems.
Best said the government assumed vacancies would be filled by east Europeans but he said such workers had "no cultural sensitivity towards or understanding of the curry industry".
So its wrong for non bangladeshi's to cook curries, but its ok for non-bangladeshi's to eat them?
He added: "For many low-income families the only chance they have of eating out is to go for a curry."
Bollocks!
All this to be taken with a grain of piquant salt!!!
