Married couples 'penalised' by tax system

This is unbelievable, while the politicians are bleating about lack of parental control, breakdown in family values, kids running wild and and and, on the other hand, they put together a tax system which actually penalises somebody wanting to raise a family!

Read and fume! I quote:

Single-salary married couples in Britain are paying a much higher proportion of tax than their counterparts in other major western nations, according to a new report.
The study will disclose that couples with a stay-at-home parent, two children and average annual earnings of £30,800, pay 40 per cent more tax in the UK than in other major industrialised nations.
They also pay 25 per cent more in tax than the average for European Union countries.
Using data published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, it has found that the tax burden on a one-earner married couple with two children earning 75 per cent of the average wage has trebled since the 1960s.
The burden on a single person with no dependants has risen by only 16 per cent.

All this to be taken with a grain of piquant salt!!!
