Very useful post and I am taking the liberty to post extracts here. Some very simple rules but it is amazing how few know and follow these rules.

• Don't think of it as a numbers game.
• Don't schmooze the wrong room.
• Don't forget, it’s about who knows you.
• Don't confuse importance with influence.
• Don't just stay within your comfort zone.

All this to be taken with a grain of piquant salt!!!
